Jake

My name is Jake! I am approximately 3 years old and I weigh about 14 lbs.  I am fostered in Mount Airy, North Carolina but easy, affordable transportation is available. I am a very sweet and loving dog once I get to know you. I follow my my foster mom from room to room and like to sleep on her bed. I also like to snuggle and sit in a lap. I get along well with other dogs. I'm not sure about cats because the rescue doesn't have any.  I get along fine with children but will not be adopted into a home with young children. I am house trained. I do not get in the trash or try to dart out of the door if it's opened. I do try to go with my foster when she leaves though. I'm always happy to see her when she comes back. My coat is soft and shiny and does not seem to mat or need to be groomed. I come from a home where I was allowed to be the alpha in the household, so I need an owner that knows how to be in charge and not let me be the alpha.  I bark at strangers and strange noises. My biggest downfall is that I continue barking. My foster has to tell me multiple times to stop barking before I finally do. When a stranger comes in the house, I do bark but then but will go up and sniff them.  I'm usually happy to be petted by them within a few minutes. I have periods of playfulness first thing in the morning and then again in the evening. I would love to be adopted into a home with another young dog to play with. I am ready and waiting to go to my new forever home.
